A Jamaat-e-Islami activist was allegedly beaten to death following a dispute over sand loading and unloading in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Kazi Yusuf Hossain, 45, a resident of Konkapait village. He was also known locally as an Islamic song performer.

The incident took place at Amjader Bazar in Batisa union.

According to local sources, Yusuf had an altercation with a tractor driver over the loading and unloading of sand at Konkapait School ground on Saturday.

Abul Kalam Azad, owner of Fariha Enterprise, reportedly warned Yusuf not to visit the Amjader Bazar area following the dispute.

On Monday morning, when Yusuf went to the market, Azad’s associates allegedly attacked him, leaving him critically injured.

Family members took him to Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex, where he received initial treatment before being referred to Cumilla for advanced care.

However, he died on the way to Cumilla.

Chauddagram Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arif Hossain confirmed the incident.

Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Cumilla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

The accused reportedly went into hiding after the incident.

Police said efforts were underway to arrest those involved and legal proceedings were in progress.
