Dhaka, October 27: Bangladesh may experience rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds over five consecutive days under the influence of Cyclone Arnab, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

In its 120-hour weather forecast issued at 9am on Tuesday, the Met Office said the cyclone was moving west-northwestwards over the west-central Bay of Bengal and could cross the coast of India’s Andhra Pradesh by Wednesday noon.

During the next 24 hours, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur at a few places in Chattogram, Khulna and Barishal divisions. Elsewhere, the weather is likely to remain mainly dry, with temporarily partly cloudy skies.

On Wednesday, rain or thundershowers may affect parts of all eight divisions — Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet. Daytime temperatures may fall by 1–2 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures may decrease slightly.

On Thursday, many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions may experience rain or thundershowers, while isolated areas of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may also receive rainfall.

On Friday and Saturday, rain or thundershowers may continue in several areas, particularly in Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, with isolated rainfall possible in parts of Mymensingh and Khulna divisions.

The weather department said the tendency for rain and thundershowers across the country may decrease towards the end of the extended forecast period.
