Bangladesh received US$11.465 billion in remittances during the first four months of the current fiscal year (FY2026-27), registering a 13 per cent year-on-year growth, according to the latest data from Bangladesh Bank.
The inflow stood at US$10.149 billion during the corresponding July-October period of the previous fiscal year.
In October alone, expatriate Bangladeshis sent home US$2.874 billion, up 12.1 per cent from US$2.564 billion received in October 2025.
The country also received US$218 million in remittances during October 29-31, indicating a strong flow of overseas earnings towards the end of the month.
The continued growth in remittance inflows reflects an encouraging trend in foreign currency earnings from overseas Bangladeshis. It is also helping strengthen the country’s foreign exchange reserves and ease pressure on the balance of payments.
Remittances remain one of Bangladesh’s major sources of foreign exchange, alongside export earnings. The rising inflow through formal banking channels also indicates continued reliance on official money transfer systems.
The government and Bangladesh Bank have been encouraging expatriates to send money through legal channels by offering incentives and strengthening formal remittance services
