Students who failed in one or two subjects in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations will get another opportunity to pass without losing an academic year.
The supplementary examinations are scheduled to begin on December 2, with results expected to be published by December 31, according to Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Dhaka Education Board and president of the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee.
A total of 594,113 students failed this year’s HSC and equivalent examinations across 11 education boards.
Of them, 422,905 failed in one or two subjects, including 298,040 in one subject and 124,865 in two subjects.
Students who failed in three or more subjects will not be eligible for the supplementary examinations under the current decision.
The education boards plan to complete the examinations, evaluate answer scripts and publish the results within December.
The initiative follows Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon’s announcement on October 31 that students failing in one or two subjects would be given another opportunity to avoid losing an academic year.
Applications for re-scrutiny of HSC results will remain open until November 7, while the re-scrutiny results are scheduled to be published on November 27.
