Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon has pledged to deliver error-free, high-quality and visually engaging textbooks for students in the 2027 academic year, addressing long-standing shortcomings in content and production.
He made the remarks on Sunday while inaugurating a workshop on finalising the framework of four new textbooks for primary and secondary levels at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka.
Admitting past flaws, the minister said earlier textbooks had drawn criticism due to spelling mistakes and inappropriate content.
“This time, we are working intensively with education experts to eliminate those deficiencies and ensure one hundred percent accuracy,” he said.
Milon also stressed that there would be no compromise on printing quality or paper standards. “The covers and illustrations must be lively and appealing so that they naturally attract young learners,” he added.
Stakeholders are being given the opportunity to thoroughly review the manuscripts before final approval.
Expert committees led by the state ministers for youth and sports, and cultural affairs, have been asked to submit their recommendations within five working days, after which the books will be finalised.
Outlining future plans, the minister said work on textbooks for the 2028 academic year will begin from August 1 to avoid last-minute pressure and ensure adequate preparation time.
He added that the Prime Minister is closely monitoring developments in the education sector, reaffirming the government’s commitment to creating a modern, effective and enjoyable learning environment for students.
