A court in Dhaka today set December 7 as the deadline for the submission of a further investigation report into the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, the then spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha.
The report was scheduled to be submitted today to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court. However, as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police, the investigating agency, failed to submit it, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam set a new date.
Sub-Inspector Rokonuzzaman, an official at the General Registration Office of the Paltan Police Station court, confirmed the development to BSS.
Miscreants shot Osman Hadi at around 2:20pm on December 12, 2024, on Box Culvert Road in the Paltan police station area while he was returning from Jum’a prayers.
The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Following the incident, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed a case with Paltan Police Station on December 14.
Osman Hadi, who was critically injured, was taken to Singapore for advanced treatment, but died there on December 18.
On December 20, following an application by the investigating officer, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddique Azad ordered the addition of Section 302 of the Penal Code to the case.
Earlier, on January 6, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Faisal Ahmed, the investigating officer, submitted a charge sheet against 17 people to the CMM Court in Dhaka.
However, the plaintiff expressed dissatisfaction with the charge sheet and filed a no-confidence petition (naraji petition) with the court on January 15. The court accepted the petition and directed the CID to conduct a further investigation into the case.
The DB charge sheet named 17 people as accused. Of them, 11 are currently in custody, while the remaining six are absconding.
