A legal notice has been served on National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam, asking him to withdraw his remarks about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman within 10 days.
Supreme Court lawyer Md Habibur Rahman sent the notice to the NCP leader on Thursday.
The notice demands withdrawal of Nahid’s reported remarks, made on October 30 and broadcast by Channel One and Channel i, that Tarique Rahman had come to power to engage in extortion and looting and had no plan to run the country.
The lawyer said the comments were unacceptable and demanded that Nahid withdraw them and apologise to the nation.
The notice warned that failure to withdraw the remarks and respond within 10 days would lead to legal action under the Code of Criminal Procedure.
