The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has introduced a new requirement for all Bangladeshi visa applicants, making the submission of a prescribed Visa Undertaking Form mandatory for every category of visa.
The High Commission announced the decision in an urgent advisory published on its visa portal on Thursday.
Under the new guidelines, applicants must download the designated Visa Undertaking Form from the link provided by the High Commission, fill it out correctly, scan it and upload it along with their online applications through the NIC Visa Application Portal.
The High Commission has clarified that only the prescribed format will be accepted. Forms submitted in any other format will not be considered valid.
The one-page undertaking form requires applicants to provide five mandatory personal details: their name as mentioned in the passport, passport number, nationality, date of birth and current address in Dhaka.
Applicants must also clearly state the purpose of their visit to India, such as tourism, business, medical treatment or attending a conference.
In addition, they must pledge to return to their home country after completing their visit, refrain from overstaying their visas and comply with Indian laws, regulations and cultural norms during their stay.
The form warns that violations of Indian laws could result in visa cancellation and affect eligibility for future Indian visas.
Applicants must sign the form and mention the place and date of signing. In the case of minors, signatures from both parents will be required.
The new requirement is aimed at making the visa application process more transparent and orderly, according to the High Commission.
