Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to nurturing the innovative and creative talents of the country’s youth, saying they would receive all necessary support to excel in science, technology and research.
He made the remarks when a delegation of Bangladeshi students who won gold medals at various international Olympiads called on him at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, according to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.
Congratulating the medal winners, the Prime Minister praised their outstanding achievements and said their success had enhanced Bangladesh’s reputation on the global stage.
He interacted with the students, learning about their academic pursuits, research activities and future aspirations, and encouraged them to continue pursuing innovation, scientific research and creative thinking.
During the meeting, the students briefed the Prime Minister on the upcoming AI International Olympiad, scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan from August 2 to 8, and sought government support for Bangladesh’s participation.
Wishing the team success, Tarique Rahman assured them of the government’s full cooperation and necessary assistance.
The Prime Minister presented laptops to three gold medalists: Labib Shahriar of Homna Adarsha School, Saiduzzaman Araf of Moulvibazar Government College and Tridib Roy Arzya of Notre Dame College. He also presented books to the other members of the delegation.
Highlighting the government’s vision for a knowledge-based economy, the Prime Minister said efforts were underway to identify talented young people across the country and provide them with international-standard training, research opportunities and other institutional support.
“A technology-based and knowledge-driven Bangladesh will be built with the participation of the country’s talented youth,” he said, urging the students to work with dedication, integrity and a spirit of innovation to strengthen Bangladesh’s global standing.
Responding positively to the delegation’s proposal to host a future AI Olympiad in Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman assured them of the government’s full support to organise the international event.
The delegation included Bangladesh AI Olympiad team leader and Dhaka University teacher Prof Dr BM Mainul Hossain Raju, coach Dr Mohammad Azam Khan, Bangladesh Open Source Network President Munir Hasan, and AI Olympiad coordinator and mentor Tasnim Mahfuz Nafis.
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Rehan Asif Asad, Press Secretary Saleh Shibly and Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon were also present at the meeting.
