FIFA has confirmed that US President Donald Trump will attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, where he is expected to present the trophy to the champions after the match.

The final will be played on Sunday, July 19, featuring European champions Spain against defending champions Argentina at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm local time (1900 GMT) at the 82,500-capacity stadium, which has been temporarily renamed New York-New Jersey Stadium for the tournament. The venue is home to NFL teams the New York Giants and New York Jets and has already hosted the tournament’s two semi-finals and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final.

Spain will be aiming to win their second FIFA World Cup title, while Argentina are chasing a fourth world crown after lifting the trophy in Qatar in 2022.

The two nations last met in an international friendly on March 27, 2018, when Spain recorded a commanding 6-1 victory over Argentina at Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

The 2026 final will also make history as the first FIFA World Cup final to feature a Super Bowl-style halftime show, adding a new entertainment element to football’s biggest event.

With two of the world’s top-ranked teams set to battle for the sport’s biggest prize and the US president among the spectators, Sunday’s final promises to be one of the most high-profile World Cup deciders in history.
