Four more children die of measles, symptoms

Four more children died from measles or measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, while 773 new infections were reported, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest health bulletin, released on Saturday, said three of the four deaths were reported in Sylhet Division.

Since March 15, a total of 784 children have died from confirmed measles or measles-like symptoms nationwide. Of them, 95 deaths were laboratory-confirmed as measles, while 689 children died after showing measles-related symptoms.

During the same period, 14,318 laboratory-confirmed measles cases have been recorded, while 116,710 people with measles-like symptoms sought treatment at hospitals across the country.

According to the DGHS, Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of infections and deaths. Since March 15, the division has reported 368 deaths linked to confirmed measles or measles-like symptoms and 62,075 suspected or confirmed cases.

The figures cover the period from 8:00 am on March 15 to 8:00 am on July 18, the DGHS said.
