BRAC University has appointed three distinguished professionals to its Board of Trustees, bringing together extensive expertise in global higher education, academic leadership and financial governance as the institution pursues its next phase of growth and development.
The new trustees are Dr Claire Gordon, Director of the Eden Centre for Education Enhancement at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE); Masud Khan, Chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) and former Chairman of Unilever Consumer Care Ltd; and Professor Imran Rahman, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).
The appointments were approved through the university’s governance process and reflect BRAC University’s commitment to strengthening its leadership by drawing on both national and international expertise.
Welcoming the new trustees, Tamara Hasan Abed, Chairperson of the BRAC University Board of Trustees, said the appointments come at an important stage in the university’s development.
“At this important moment in BRAC University’s journey, we are pleased to welcome three highly accomplished individuals to the Board of Trustees. Their experience in global higher education, university leadership, financial governance and institutional development will bring valuable perspectives as BRAC University continues to strengthen teaching and learning, student experience and research for impact,” she said.
Dr Claire Gordon brings extensive experience in educational development, curriculum enhancement, academic promotion, digital innovation and inclusive teaching practices. At LSE, she leads initiatives on teaching and learning innovation, including the institution’s approach to the use of generative artificial intelligence in education, while also promoting international academic collaboration.
The university said her appointment would contribute a global perspective to its ongoing efforts to enhance curriculum design, pedagogy and academic quality.
Masud Khan, a Fellow Chartered Accountant (India), Fellow Cost and Management Accountant (India) and Certified Management Accountant (Australia), has decades of experience in corporate governance, capital markets, financial management, audit oversight and board leadership across multinational and domestic organisations.
His expertise is expected to strengthen the Board’s oversight of financial governance, institutional accountability and the university’s long-term sustainability.
Professor Imran Rahman brings extensive experience in university administration, business education and academic governance. During his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of ULAB, he played a significant role in advancing higher education and institutional development in Bangladesh.
BRAC University said his leadership experience would support its continued emphasis on student-centred education, academic excellence and institutional innovation.
According to the university, the appointments come at a significant point in its journey as it continues to build on its founding vision of academic excellence, social impact and inclusive development.
The addition of the three trustees is expected to further strengthen the Board’s capacity to guide BRAC University’s strategic priorities, reinforce institutional governance and support its long-term growth as one of Bangladesh’s leading private universities.
