Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider and his wife, Naima Imran, have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after a fire broke out at the envoy’s official residence in Dhaka’s Baridhara diplomatic zone early Thursday.
Preliminary reports indicate the fire started around 4:55 am, apparently due to an electrical short circuit.
The couple suffered smoke inhalation and breathing complications before being rushed to Continental Hospital in Gulshan.
Hospital officials said both are receiving treatment under specialist care and are currently in stable condition.
The extent of damage to the residence and the exact cause of the fire are under investigation.
