A Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter jet crashed during a training flight in the northwestern province of Yalova on Wednesday, Turkey’s Defence Ministry said.
The pilot safely ejected from the aircraft and survived the incident, the ministry said. Videos shared by local media showed a large plume of black smoke rising from a field at the crash site.
The crash occurred during a training mission, and there was no immediate indication that the aircraft had been involved in any hostile activity. Authorities have not yet disclosed what caused the fighter jet to go down.
Turkey’s Defence Ministry said an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Further details about the aircraft and the pilot were not immediately released.
