Four killed as pickup overturns in Rangamati

Four people were killed and two others injured after a pickup truck lost control and overturned in Rangamati Sadar upazila early Sunday.

The accident occurred around 5:30am in Manikchhari, said Rangamati Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Jasim Uddin.

The deceased were identified as Meghrani Chakma, 45, Shobha Chakma, 52, Shantana Chakma, 38, and Shanti Ranjan Chakma, 65.

The injured were pickup driver Gyan Bikash Chakma, 50, and Suman Chakma, 45. They were taken to Rangamati General Hospital for treatment.

According to police, several traders were travelling in the pickup with goods to attend the Kutukchhari Hatbazar when the vehicle lost control in Manikchhari, hit a roadside safety post and overturned.

Three people died on the spot. The injured were rushed to Rangamati General Hospital, while one was referred to Chattogram. He died on the way, police said.

The bodies have been kept at the mortuary of Rangamati General Hospital.
