A Dhaka-bound AC bus of Icon Paribahan caught fire while travelling through Ramu in Cox’s Bazar early Saturday, leaving around 25–30 passengers in panic.
The incident occurred around midnight on Friday near the N Alam Filling Station at Kolghor Bazar in Ramu.
Passengers said they first noticed a burning smell and smoke before flames spread inside the bus.
As the situation worsened, local residents broke the bus windows and helped rescue the passengers. No casualties were reported.
Passengers alleged that the driver and helper failed to alert them about the fire and fled after the blaze started.
The allegation could not be independently verified immediately.
Ramu Fire Service and Civil Defence officials said they initially suspected a mechanical fault and overheating of the engine as the cause of the fire. Firefighters later brought the blaze under control.
