Youth dies of electrocution while attempting theft in Dhanmondi

A 22-year-old man died after being electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal electrical wires from a house in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred around 7:00pm on the ground floor of a house in Madhubazar, according to police. The injured man, identified as Russell, was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 9:30pm.

Dhanmondi Police Station Sub-Inspector Faruk Khan said Russell was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal electrical wires from the house.

Police said the body has been kept at the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy, while further investigation is underway.

Russell’s father, Md Akhtar Hossain, said their family home is in Jhilkutia village of Madhabdi upazila in Narsingdi. Russell lived in Mohammadpur’s Rayerbazar area with his wife and child and worked as a flower vendor in Dhanmondi.
