Faridpur: A bus supervisor was killed and at least 15 people were injured in a collision between a bus and a truck in Madhukhali of Faridpur on Thursday evening.
The accident occurred around 7:30pm in front of Shah Habib Dakhil Madrasa on the Faridpur-Magura Highway.
The deceased was identified as Md Jewel, 28, a supervisor of Purvasha Paribahan. He was a resident of Munshiganj village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district.
Mohammad Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Karimpur Highway Police Station, said a flour-laden truck suffered a tyre blowout near Shah Habib Dakhil Madrasa. The driver parked the truck on the road to replace the damaged tyre.
At that time, a Purvasha Paribahan bus travelling from Dhaka to Chuadanga at high speed crashed into the rear of the stationary truck.
Jewel was sitting on the engine cover on the left side of the bus when the collision occurred. He died on the spot.
The injured were rescued and taken to Madhukhali Upazila Health Complex and Faridpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Police seized both vehicles involved in the accident and took them to the station. The deceased’s body was handed over to his family, while legal proceedings are underway.
