KUSHTIA: Two people were killed and three others injured in separate lightning strikes in Kushtia on Thursday (September 17).
The incidents occurred around 2:30pm in Dahakula village under Alamapur Union of Kushtia Sadar Upazila and Narayanpur village under Rifaitpur Union of Daulatpur Upazila.
According to local sources, several people were working in the fields in Dahakula Karigorpara and Jotpara when lightning struck, leaving four people seriously injured. They were taken to Kushtia Medical College Hospital, where Mohammad Roushan Ali, also known as Nushu, son of the late Moslem Uddin of Dahakula Karigorpara, died while undergoing treatment.
The three injured—Samez Ali and Rajab Ali, sons of the late Harez Ali of the same village, and Abdul Jalil, son of the late Salim Uddin of Jotpara—are receiving treatment at the hospital.
In a separate incident, Arz Ali, 28, son of Abdur Razzak of Narayanpur village, was struck by lightning while working in his home’s yard. He died at the scene. Locals later took him to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Kushtia Medical College Hospital Deputy Director Dr. Akul Uddin said one person was brought to the hospital dead following a lightning strike, while several others injured in the incident were undergoing treatment.
Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex official Dr. Touhidul Hasan Tuhin also confirmed the death of one person in a lightning strike.
Kushtia Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid said a farmer was killed and three others injured in the lightning strike in Dahakula village Thursday afternoon.
