The death toll from an explosion followed by a fire at a garment factory in Ashulia, Savar, has risen to seven, with at least 16 others injured, according to reports.
The incident occurred around 6:45pm on Sunday at a factory of Pretty Group inside S Suhi Industrial Park in Jamgora.
A gas cylinder reportedly exploded while cylinders were being unloaded from a covered van, triggering a fire and subsequent blasts.
Five bodies were recovered from inside the covered van, while a woman, identified as 55-year-old Joynab Begum, was killed after being struck by debris from the explosion.
Another injured person, identified as Nazrul Islam, later died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Fire Service personnel deployed several units to the scene and brought the blaze under control after nearly two hours.
Several vehicles were also damaged or burnt in the incident.
Four critically injured people were taken to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Authorities said the exact cause of the explosion and the extent of the damage would be determined after further investigation.
