The commander of the United States Pacific Fleet, Admiral Stephen Koehler, is set to arrive in Dhaka on Tuesday for a three-day official visit, underscoring the growing strategic engagement between Bangladesh and the United States.
Admiral Koehler will lead a 22-member US Navy delegation during the visit, which comes just three days after the trip to Bangladesh by US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor. The back-to-back high-level visits highlight the increasing momentum in bilateral relations and reflect Bangladesh’s rising strategic importance in the Indo-Pacific region.
According to Mara Byrd, Chargé d’Affaires spokesperson at the US Embassy in Dhaka, Admiral Koehler will hold meetings with senior Bangladeshi government officials during his stay. The discussions will focus on strengthening the long-standing US-Bangladesh defense partnership and expanding cooperation in maritime security, humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and professional military education.
Sources at the US Embassy said the visit by the 22-member delegation demonstrates Washington’s recognition of Bangladesh’s growing strategic role in the region. It is also expected to reinforce defense cooperation and enhance security collaboration between the two countries.
