The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) has increased gold prices for the second consecutive day, raising the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 4,374 per bhori to Tk 228,556, including VAT.

BAJUS announced the revised rates in a notice issued on Friday morning, citing adjustments in the domestic market.

Under the new pricing structure, a bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will now cost Tk 228,556.

The price of 21-carat gold has been fixed at Tk 218,292 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will be sold at Tk 187,440 per bhori.

The price of traditional gold has been set at Tk 153,148 per bhori.

The latest revision comes just a day after BAJUS raised the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,216 per bhori on July 2, taking it to Tk 224,182, including VAT.

According to the association, the new prices will remain effective at jewellery shops across the country until further notice.

However, customers will have to pay additional making charges depending on the design and craftsmanship of the ornaments.

BAJUS noted that value-added tax (VAT) is already included in the retail prices of gold and silver ornaments, meaning jewellers are not permitted to charge VAT separately from customers.

The association also said that its existing policies regarding the exchange and repurchase of ornaments will remain in effect, excluding specified VAT, making charges and the value of any embedded stones.

With the latest adjustment, gold prices in Bangladesh have been revised 86 times so far this year, including 43 increases, 42 reductions and one adjustment related to VAT.

According to BAJUS data, silver prices have been revised 53 times this year, with 27 increases and 26 decreases.
