The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and Janata Bank PLC have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to make financial transactions and banking services easier for Bangladeshi citizens living abroad and those planning to migrate.
The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to bring expatriate Bangladeshis and migrant workers under formal banking services and provide them with greater financial facilities and security.
The MoU was signed on Monday at the conference room of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.
On behalf of the ministry, Secretary Md Mokhtar Ahmed signed the agreement, while Janata Bank Managing Director Md Mujibur Rahman signed it on behalf of the state-owned bank.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque described the introduction of the Expatriate Card as a historic and transformative initiative.
“We are going to witness a historic and groundbreaking event today with the launch of the Expatriate Card,” he said.
The state minister highlighted the contribution of Bangladeshis working abroad to the country’s economy and foreign exchange reserves.
He said the digital Expatriate Card was being introduced to ensure the overall security of migrant workers, protect their hard-earned money and make financial transactions in Bangladesh easier.
The initiative is expected to strengthen access to banking services for expatriate Bangladeshis while facilitating their financial activities and transactions with greater convenience and security.
The government views the initiative as part of broader efforts to improve services for migrant workers and strengthen the country’s remittance system.
