Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a meeting with representatives of 25 leading US companies to discuss increasing American investment in Bangladesh, expanding bilateral trade and business, creating jobs and further strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin and Ambassador Atul Keshap briefed journalists on the meeting in front of the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat on Thursday (August 13).
Mahdi Amin said a delegation of around 50 representatives from leading US companies had held a series of meetings over the past three days with ministers, state ministers and advisers in charge of various ministries.
The delegation also met the prime minister on Thursday, he said.
“Discussions focused on increasing investment in Bangladesh, expanding business and trade, strengthening economic relations between the two countries and creating employment opportunities,” Mahdi Amin said.
The meeting also discussed how the US private sector could contribute to implementing various government manifestos and policy initiatives, he added.
Mahdi Amin said the US private sector could play an important role in Bangladesh’s future economic prosperity.
“Today’s meeting was highly productive and effective. We believe it will help further advance Bangladesh-US economic relations,” he said.
Ambassador Atul Keshap also expressed the US business community’s interest in expanding trade and investment ties with Bangladesh.
Officials from the US-Bangladesh Business Council, US Chamber of Commerce, Constellation Energy, Meta, Visa, US Export Council, MetLife, Uber Asia Group, APR Energy, VF Corporation, AgriScience, Salesforce, Cisco, HSBC Bank and Standard Chartered Bank were among those participating in the delegation.
The three days of discussions with government officials, followed by the meeting with the prime minister, are expected to open up new opportunities for greater US investment and expanded bilateral trade in Bangladesh.
