The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday submitted the nomination paper of its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for the post of president.
The nomination paper was handed over to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission headquarters in the afternoon.
BNP Standing Committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Standing Committee member Goyeshwar Chandra Roy were, among others, present during the submission.
Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan proposed Mirza Fakhrul’s nomination, while Goyeshwar Chandra Roy seconded it.
The BNP earlier announced Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as its candidate for the presidency. Following the decision, he resigned from his positions as the party’s secretary general and a member of its National Standing Committee.
The presidential election is scheduled to be held on August 20.
