The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has ordered former ministers Hasanul Haq Inu and Abdur Razzaq to be produced before it on September 3 in a crimes-against-humanity case over the 2013 Shapla Chattar killings.
A three-member Tribunal-2 bench, headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, set the next hearing date on Sunday.
Nine accused currently in custody were produced before the tribunal during the hearing. Since production warrants had already been issued against former ministers Inu and Razzaq, the tribunal ordered that they be brought before it on the next hearing date.
The nine accused produced before the tribunal were former minister Abdul Latif Siddique, former minister Dr Dipu Moni, former state minister for home affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku, former IGP AKM Shahidul Haque, former army officer Ziaul Ahsan, former president of Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee Shahriar Kabir, former Ekattor TV managing director Mozammel Haque Babu, former chief reporter Farzana Rupa and former police officer Abdul Jalil Mondal.
The case concerns alleged crimes against humanity linked to the Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in Dhaka’s Motijheel in May 2013. Authorities have reported 57 deaths in Dhaka, Narayanganj and Chattogram in connection with the events.
On July 27, prosecutors submitted formal charges against 41 accused in the case. They include a former prime minister, 15 former ministers and lawmakers, 21 former members of different security and law-enforcement agencies, three politicians and organisers, and two journalists.
