Major reshuffle in police admin

The government has carried out a major reshuffle in the upper ranks of the Bangladesh Police, appointing new Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) for the Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna ranges, while also replacing the Commissioner of the Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP).

The appointments were announced in a notification issued on Sunday (July 5), signed by Toufique Ahmed, Deputy Secretary of the Police-1 Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to the notification, DIG of the Special Branch (SB) Md Iqbal Hossain has been appointed as the new DIG of the Dhaka Range. Meanwhile, Barishal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Ashiq Saeed has been transferred and appointed as the DIG of the Rajshahi Range.

Replacing him, DIG at the Police Headquarters Abu Raihan Muhammad Saleh has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Barishal Metropolitan Police.

The reshuffle also includes the transfer of Barishal Range DIG Md Mostafizur Rahman to the Khulna Range as DIG, while Khulna Range DIG Md Rezaul Haque has been posted as DIG of the Industrial Police. Rajshahi Range DIG Mohammad Shahjahan has been transferred to the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the transfers have been made in the public interest and will take effect immediately.
