A low-pressure system that formed over the Bay of Bengal has moved inland, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) to warn of strong winds over the northern Bay, seaports and coastal areas.
In a special weather bulletin issued on Monday (July 6), the BMD advised the seaports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to continue displaying Local Warning Signal No. 3.
According to the bulletin, the monsoon depression, which had been centred over West Bengal and the adjoining north Odisha coast, has moved west-northwest and now lies over interior Odisha and adjoining southern Jharkhand. It is expected to continue moving in a west-northwesterly direction.
The weather office said the system could generate squally weather over the northern Bay of Bengal, the seaports and adjacent coastal areas of Bangladesh, necessitating the continuation of Local Warning Signal No. 3 at all four maritime ports.
Meanwhile, all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain in safe shelter until further notice.
