Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban on Sunday and conveyed greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping.
During the meeting, Yao invited the President to visit China at a convenient time and briefed him on the outcomes of the Prime Minister’s recent China visit, including progress on the China Economic and Industrial Zone, Mongla Port modernisation and the Mongla EPZ.
The ambassador expressed hope that at least 30 Chinese companies would invest around $500 million in Bangladesh, potentially creating jobs for about 100,000 people.
The two sides also discussed the Teesta River project, strategic dialogue, defence cooperation, exports of Bangladeshi fruits to China, solar power, electric vehicle assembly, the China-Bangladesh-Myanmar economic corridor and the Rohingya crisis.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening and diversifying Bangladesh-China relations.
