Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to pay an official visit to Saudi Arabia.
The invitation was conveyed on Monday when Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdullah Zafer H. bin Abiah met the prime minister at the Secretariat and handed over the invitation letter.
Speaking at a press briefing later, Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir said the Saudi envoy also conveyed the Crown Prince’s interest in visiting Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
He said Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia share long-standing, friendly relations, which the government hopes to elevate to a strategic partnership through expanded cooperation.
“The invitation for the prime minister to visit Saudi Arabia and the Crown Prince’s interest in visiting Bangladesh reflect the strength and growing importance of bilateral ties,” Kabir said.
Asked when the visit might take place, he said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has accepted the invitation, but the date has yet to be finalised.
“The schedule will be decided through mutual consultations. The visit is likely to take place after the summer,” he added.
