New water pumps will be installed in different areas of Dhaka’s Pallabi and Rupnagar to address their longstanding water crisis, Youth and Sports State Minister and Dhaka North BNP convener Aminul Haque said on Thursday.
He also said the government has taken an initiative to build a public hospital in Pallabi in response to a longstanding demand from residents of the area and greater Mirpur.
Haque made the remarks while inaugurating the construction of a deep tube well and a mini road at Block C of Baunia Bandh in Pallabi at around 9am.
“Residents of Pallabi and Rupnagar have been suffering from water shortages for a long time. In response to their demands, initiatives have been taken to install water pumps in different areas,” he said.
He said pumps would be installed in phases in Block C of Baunia Bandh, as well as in Wards 2 and 3 and other areas where they are needed.
“Land has already been allocated for several water pumps, while the process of allocating more sites is underway,” Haque said, adding that Dhaka WASA was working to start the pump projects quickly.
He said work on several pumps had already begun.
The government would work over the next five years to address the water crisis and other civic problems in Pallabi and Rupnagar, he said, seeking cooperation from local residents.
Haque said an initiative had also been taken to build a public hospital in Pallabi in response to a longstanding demand from residents of Pallabi and greater Mirpur.
“Instructions have been given to build a hospital in Pallabi. Directions have been sent to the Health Ministry regarding approval of the hospital,” he said.
He added that discussions were underway with the health and land ministries to identify a suitable site for the hospital.
“A public hospital has long been a demand of the people of Pallabi and greater Mirpur. Inshallah, the hospital will be built for you,” Haque said.
The development projects were organised by Ward 5 BNP and its affiliated organisations, with support from Dhaka WASA and Dhaka North City Corporation.
