PM assures job to mother of July Uprising martyr

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday met the mother of July Uprising martyr Abdullah Bin Jahid and assured her of a job while inquiring about the condition of her cancer-stricken younger son.

Fatema Tuz Johora met the prime minister at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, accompanied by her son Mahmudullah Bin Jisan, who is undergoing cancer treatment. Member Secretary of Amra BNP Poribar (We are BNP family) Mokhsedul Momin Mithun was also present on the occasion.

During the meeting, the prime minister asked about Jisan’s health and ongoing treatment and assured Fatema of employment support, according to sources familiar with the meeting.

Fatema’s family has endured a series of tragedies over the past two years. Her elder son, Abdullah Bin Jahid, was fatally shot on the night of August 5, 2024, during the July mass uprising. Two weeks later, the family learned that her younger son, Jisan, had been diagnosed with cancer. Seven months after that, she also lost her husband.

Faced with mounting financial hardship, the family struggled to bear the cost of Jisan’s treatment.

According to those close to the family, Tarique Rahman, then acting chairman of the BNP and now prime minister, stepped in to support Jisan’s medical care through the party’s welfare platform Amra BNP Poribar.

The organisation’s then convener, Atikur Rahman, who now serves as the Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary, coordinated Jisan’s treatment while regularly updating Tarique on his condition.

The family said the prime minister has continued to oversee arrangements for Jisan’s treatment and remains in contact regarding his medical progress.
