The Rangamati district administration on Tuesday evening temporarily closed Sajek Valley, one of Bangladesh’s most popular tourist destinations, due to persistent heavy rainfall, the growing risk of landslides and disruption to communication in the hill district.

The closure was announced through an emergency public notice signed by Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi.

According to the notice, all tourist attractions, waterfalls, hill trails, remote areas and other high-risk locations in Sajek have been declared off-limits to tourists, tour operators and the general public until further notice.

The district administration said the decision was taken following weather forecasts issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department and the Storm Warning Centre in Agargaon, which warned of continued heavy rainfall across the region.

Authorities said recent downpours have already triggered landslides in parts of Rangamati, disrupted road communication and significantly increased the risk of accidents in the hilly terrain.

The administration said the temporary restriction was imposed to ensure the safety of tourists and local residents until weather conditions improve.

Residents and visitors have been urged to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas and strictly follow official safety instructions until the restriction is lifted.
