Sajek Valley, a popular tourist destination in Rangamati’s Baghaichhari upazila, has reopened to visitors following the withdrawal of a temporary travel ban by the district administration.
The decision was announced in an emergency public notice issued on Thursday, October 15, and signed by Rangamati Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Nazma Ashrafi.
Tourists will be allowed to visit Sajek from Friday, October 16.
The administration had closed the tourist destination indefinitely from the evening of October 11, citing security concerns amid a road blockade called by two local organisations.
The Sajek Karbari Association and the Sajek Gono Odhikar Rokkha Committee announced on Thursday that they would suspend their blockade programme from October 16 to 21 to allow Hindu devotees to celebrate Durga Puja.
The decision followed a request from the Sajek Machalong Bazar Durga Puja Celebration Committee.
The two organisations said the blockade had been called to ensure the safety of local residents and protect their lives and property.
They warned that the programme could resume after Durga Puja if their three-point demands were not met.
The reopening of Sajek Valley is expected to bring relief to tourists, resort owners and businesses dependent on tourism during the Durga Puja holidays.
