Ex-MP Omar Faruk shown arrested in attempted murder case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday showed former Member of Parliament for Naogaon-6, Md Omar Faruk, arrested in a case over an attempted murder during the July 2024 mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamshed Alam passed the order after police produced Faruk before the court and sought to show him arrested in the case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station.

The court subsequently ordered that he be sent back to Jaill .

According to case documents, the victim, Md Sohel Rana, was shot on August 5, 2024, in front of Mayur Villa at the Mohammadpur Tin Rastar Mor area in the capital.

He was later rushed to a hospital, where he underwent prolonged treatment.

The case was formally filed on June 11, 2025, by Sohel Rana with Mohammadpur Police Station.

Police arrested Omar Faruk on October 8, 2025, from the Mohammadpur area in Dhaka.
