A Dhaka court has set August 20 as the new deadline for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit its further investigation report in the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi.
Jashita Islam, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, passed the order after the CID failed to place the report on the scheduled date.
Earlier, on January 15, the court had directed the CID to reopen the investigation following a naraji petition filed by the complainant, expressing dissatisfaction with the charge sheet submitted by the Detective Branch (DB).
The DB had filed its charge sheet on January 6 against 17 accused, including alleged shooter Foysal Karim Masud and his parents, Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum.
According to the case statement, Masud and another accused, Alamgir Hossain, allegedly opened fire on Hadi on December 12, 2025, while he was travelling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw, before fleeing the scene.
The case was filed on December 14 with Paltan Model Police Station by Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber.
Initially lodged as an attempted murder case, it was later converted into a murder case under Section 302 of the Penal Code following Hadi’s death on December 18, as ordered by Siddiq Azad on December 20.
