Government employees will receive up to 13% profit on their deposits in the General Provident Fund (GPF) and Contributory Provident Fund (CPF) for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The decision comes as another financial benefit for government employees following the gazette notification on the ninth pay scale. The profit rates have been set in three tiers based on the amount of GPF balance at the beginning of the fiscal year.
The Finance Division’s Regulation-1 branch recently issued a notification in this regard.
According to the notification, employees with GPF balances of up to Tk15 lakh at the beginning of the 2026-27 fiscal year will receive a profit at the rate of 13%.
For balances ranging from Tk15 lakh and Tk1 to Tk30 lakh, the rate will be 12%.
Employees with GPF balances exceeding Tk30 lakh will receive a profit at the rate of 11%.
The applicable profit rate will also apply to contributions deposited during the fiscal year, in addition to the balance held in the fund at the beginning of the year.
The GPF is an important long-term savings scheme for government employees. Employees deposit a specified portion of their salaries into the fund and can withdraw the accumulated amount with profit upon retirement or at other times permitted under the relevant rules.
The notification also provides for profit on deposits under the Contributory Provident Fund for employees of autonomous bodies and corporations. However, these institutions must determine and pay profit in accordance with their own financial rules and regulations.
The government-fixed rates will serve as the maximum ceiling for such institutions. This means they may determine profit rates under their respective rules, but cannot set rates higher than those prescribed by the government.
The rates set for the 2026-27 fiscal year are expected to provide an important financial benefit to government employees by supporting long-term savings and post-retirement financial security.
