Biman Bangladesh Airlines is now moving ahead with plans to purchase 10 aircraft from Airbus, which would take the national flag carrier’s planned acquisition of new aircraft to 35 from Boeing and Airbus.
Biman has already signed an agreement with Boeing for 25 aircraft, including five Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners and six 737-8 MAX jets in the latest addition to its order.
The Boeing aircraft will be delivered in phases, with the original 14 aircraft scheduled for delivery between 2031 and 2035.
Biman currently operates 19 aircraft and plans to lease additional planes to maintain its capacity until the new aircraft arrive. The government had earlier said it planned to lease up to 10 aircraft by 2027.
The fleet expansion is aimed at increasing flight frequencies on existing international routes and opening new destinations, while strengthening Biman’s international passenger operations.
