Biman to buy 11 more Boeing Aircraft

Biman Bangladesh Airlines is set to purchase 11 additional aircraft from US-based Boeing, in a major fleet expansion deal that US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen has welcomed as a boost to bilateral trade ties.

In a message shared on the US Embassy in Dhaka’s verified Facebook page on Wednesday (Sept 23), Ambassador Christensen congratulated Boeing and Biman Bangladesh Airlines on the agreement.

He said the planned purchase of Boeing aircraft would represent “a big win” for the strong commercial relationship between the United States and Bangladesh, adding that both countries would benefit significantly from the deal.

Christensen also said he looked forward to witnessing the signing ceremony in New York.

The agreement is scheduled to be formally signed in New York on Wednesday afternoon local time, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, in the presence of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The fleet expansion is being viewed as a significant step towards strengthening Biman’s future passenger services and expanding its international operations.

The deal comes amid competition between Boeing and European aircraft manufacturer Airbus for future aircraft orders from Biman.

The 11 new aircraft will be in addition to Biman’s earlier $3.7 billion agreement with Boeing, according to the report.
