Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced plans to establish a military drone manufacturing facility in greater Bogura as part of a major modernisation drive for the armed forces.
Responding to a question in parliament on Wednesday, the prime minister said the project would be implemented on a fast-track basis to strengthen the country’s defence capabilities through advanced air defence systems, surveillance technology and drone production.
He said the Army’s 10-year modernisation plan will require Tk 86,000 crore, while the Navy will be strengthened with modern frigates, corvettes, offshore patrol vessels and submarines.
The government is also considering setting up a Defence Industrial Zone (DIZ) to boost domestic defence production, reduce foreign dependence and promote technology transfer with friendly countries.
The prime minister added that three-year and seven-year military development plans are being implemented to significantly enhance the Army’s combat capability.
