Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday honoured 101 distinguished teachers from different levels of education for their outstanding contributions to nation-building.
The prime minister handed over the awards at a ceremony at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka around 1:30pm on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day.
Each award recipient received Tk2 lakh, a crest and a certificate of recognition.
The programme was organised by the Ministry of Education and chaired by Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan.
Among others, Education Ministry Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman Md Selim Bhuiyan, MP; Adviser to the Education Ministry and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education and Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Mahdi Amin; and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj attended the event.
This year’s World Teachers’ Day theme is “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing dignity and shaping our future.”
Of the 101 awardees, 10 are from primary-level institutions, 20 from secondary schools, 25 from colleges, 20 from general universities, 10 from medical colleges and universities, three from agricultural universities, three from engineering universities, four from science and technology and other specialised universities, and six were selected by the prime minister.
The 10 primary-level recipients include eight teachers from general educational institutions and two from madrasas.
Among the 20 secondary-level awardees, 10 are from general secondary schools, five from technical institutions and five from madrasas. At the college level, 15 teachers from general education, five from technical education and five from madrasas are being honoured.
The 20 university-level recipients include 18 teachers from public universities and two from private universities.
In medical education, five teachers each from medical colleges and medical universities are receiving the honour. Three teachers from agricultural universities, three from engineering universities and four from science and technology and other specialised universities are also among the recipients.
