Police detained 252 people during a special operation against juvenile gangs across Cumilla district on Thursday night.
The drive was carried out simultaneously in all 18 police stations of the district, targeting areas identified as hotspots for juvenile gang activities.
District police units and the Detective Branch (DB) jointly conducted the operation under the direction of Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman. Senior police officials also took part in the drive.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md Lutfar Rahman said police were verifying whether the detainees were involved in criminal activities.
Legal action would be taken against those found involved in crimes after the verification, he said.
Lutfar added that regular operations were being conducted to prevent young people from becoming involved in criminal activities.
He also said police were maintaining strict oversight to ensure that no innocent person was harassed during the drives.
Operations to prevent juvenile crime will continue, he added.
