Heavy rain shuts schools in parts of Dhaka

Several educational institutions in the capital, including South Point School & College and St. Gregory’s High School & College, have declared a holiday and suspended classes and half-yearly examinations on Sunday due to heavy rainfall and adverse weather.

The schools said the decision was taken to ensure students’ safety amid continuous downpours. Revised examination schedules will be announced later.

The weather office said persistent rainfall has continued across Dhaka and much of the country over the past few days, causing waterlogging in several parts of the capital and disrupting normal life.

• The worsening weather also prompted concerns among parents about sending their children to schools.
