Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the Bangladesh Army’s summer training exercise in the forested area of East Rahmatpur in Babuganj upazila in Barishal on Monday.
Walking through the sprawling jungle exercise zone, the prime minister observed troops conducting simulated combat operations, tactical manoeuvres and jungle warfare training.
Army officials briefed him on various aspects of the exercise, including the operation of an anti-drone multi-barrel system used to detect and neutralise hostile drones.
The prime minister also interacted with soldiers in the field, enquired about their training and operational experiences, and joined them for a combat-style meal prepared under field conditions.
Addressing the troops, Tarique Rahman described the Bangladesh Army as a symbol of public trust in safeguarding the country’s independence and sovereignty.
He praised the force’s professionalism, discipline and patriotism, and stressed the importance of modern technology, advanced training and combat readiness.
He also expressed the hope that the Bangladesh Army would earn greater international recognition and assured continued government support for the force’s modernisation and professional development.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, Defence Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Military Secretary to the Prime Minister Maj Gen Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq and other senior military officials accompanied him during the visit.
