SSC in January, HSC in June from next academic year: Minister

The government plans to hold the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations in January and the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations in June from the next academic year, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said on Tuesday.

The minister made the announcement while responding to a question from lawmaker Lutfur Rahman during a sitting of the Jatiya Sangsad, presided over by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal.

Lutfur Rahman wanted to know whether the schedule for the SSC and HSC examinations would be revised from the next academic year and, if so, when the changes would take effect.

In reply, the education minister said the government has taken the initiative to realign the public examination schedule to make the academic calendar more modern and better aligned with international standards.

As part of the plan, the SSC and equivalent examinations will be held in January, while the HSC and equivalent examinations will be scheduled for June from the next academic year.

He said the move would gradually bring the academic calendar and public examination schedule into better alignment, reduce the loss of academic time and improve overall educational planning.

The minister added that the government is also working to gradually bring forward the schedule of public examinations in the coming years.
