Rear Admiral Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim has been appointed as the next Chief of the Bangladesh Navy and will assume office on July 23 after being promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral, according to an official announcement.
The appointment was disclosed in a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday.
According to the ISPR, Rear Admiral Misbah Ul Azim will be promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral on July 23 before taking over as the country’s naval chief later the same day.
A separate notification issued by the Ministry of Defence said he has been appointed Chief of the Bangladesh Navy for a three-year term, effective from July 23, 2026, to July 22, 2029.
He will succeed the outgoing Navy chief upon assuming office, the notification said.
Rear Admiral Misbah Ul Azim is a seasoned naval officer with extensive experience in command, staff and operational assignments during his career in the Bangladesh Navy. He is expected to lead the force at a time when the Navy continues to strengthen its maritime capabilities, enhance coastal and blue-water operations, and contribute to regional maritime security.
The Bangladesh Navy has expanded significantly over the past decade through the induction of modern warships, submarines, maritime patrol assets and other advanced platforms aimed at safeguarding the country’s maritime interests and supporting the sustainable development of the blue economy.
The change of command marks a routine transition in the leadership of the Navy, one of the three services of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. The new chief will oversee the force’s operational readiness, modernisation programmes, training and strategic development over the next three years.
