Newly appointed Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah-ul-Azim on Friday paid tribute to the members of the armed forces who were martyred in Bangladesh’s Liberation War by laying a wreath at Shikha Anirban in Dhaka Cantonment.
After placing the wreath, the navy chief signed the visitors’ book.
Later, upon arriving at the Naval Headquarters, he was received by the Principal Staff Officers.
A smartly turned-out naval contingent presented him with a guard of honour, which he inspected before taking the salute. Senior naval officers, including the Principal Staff Officers, attended the ceremony.
According to the Bangladesh Navy, Vice Admiral Misbah-ul-Azim reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the force into a modern and capable blue-water navy, in line with the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, to safeguard the country’s maritime boundaries and blue economy.
He also pledged to further strengthen Bangladesh’s maritime sovereignty and security by inducting advanced frigates, submarines, modern sonar and radar systems, and other cutting-edge technologies into the navy.
Vice Admiral Khondkar Misbah-ul-Azim officially assumed office as the Chief of Naval Staff on July 23.
