Rain likely in Dhaka, storm alert for 12 regions

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast light rain in Dhaka and adjoining areas over the next six hours while issuing a warning of temporary squalls and thunderstorms for 12 regions across the country.

According to an evening forecast issued by the BMD’s Storm Warning Centre on Wednesday, the sky over the capital and surrounding areas is likely to remain partly to temporarily cloudy from 7:00 pm, with light rain expected at places.

South to southeasterly winds may blow at speeds of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour, while the night temperature is expected to remain nearly unchanged.

In a separate inland river port forecast, the Met Office warned that between 4:00 pm and 1:00 am, the regions of Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet may experience temporary gusty or squally winds with speeds of 45 to 60 kmph, accompanied by rain or thundershowers.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department advised river ports in the affected regions to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 1 as a precaution against the adverse weather conditions.

People living in the warned areas, particularly those engaged in river transport and fishing activities, have been advised to remain cautious and follow the latest weather updates.
