Faridpur: A local leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has been expelled from both his party position and primary membership after an alleged objectionable video involving him and a woman spread widely on social media.
The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the Faridpur District BNP on Thursday night. The expulsion was later announced in a press release signed by District BNP Convener Syed Modarres Ali and Member Secretary A.K.M. Kibria.
The expelled leader, Obaidur Rahman, 48, is a resident of Gadadhardangi village in Aliabad Union under Faridpur Sadar Upazila. He had been serving as the Organizational Secretary of the Aliabad Union BNP.
According to the party’s statement, Rahman was expelled over allegations of “moral misconduct.” The notice also instructed leaders and activists at all levels of the party to cease all organizational ties with him.
According to local sources, a 5-minute and 37-second video allegedly showing Rahman with a woman recently circulated on social media and quickly went viral, triggering widespread public attention across the district.
Confirming the decision, District BNP Member Secretary A.K.M. Kibria said the party conducted an internal review after the video surfaced online. Following a preliminary verification of the allegations, the district committee convened an emergency meeting and decided to expel Rahman from the party.
