The government has promoted two deputy managing directors (DMDs) of state-owned financial institutions to the position of managing director (MD) and appointed them to head two major state-run institutions.
The Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance issued separate gazette notifications on Thursday regarding the appointments.
According to the notifications, Employment Bank DMD Meher Sultana has been appointed managing director of Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC), with the rank and salary of Grade 1 under the National Pay Scale 2015.
Meanwhile, Kazi Abdur Rahman, a DMD of Janata Bank PLC, has been promoted and appointed managing director of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB).
The appointments bring new leadership to two important state-owned financial institutions.
The notifications said the terms and conditions of service of the newly appointed officials would be governed by the Policy on Nomination, Appointment, Promotion and Posting of Managing Directors, Deputy Managing Directors and General Managers of State-owned Commercial Banks, Specialised Banks and Financial Institutions, 2025, as well as other government directives issued from time to time.
The orders, issued in the public interest, took effect immediately.
The latest appointments come amid a series of changes in the top management of state-owned banks and financial institutions. The government has been taking steps to appoint and post new managing directors at various institutions with a view to strengthening governance, accountability and effective leadership in the banking sector.
The latest two appointments are part of that ongoing process.
